About this record

Commissioned by Theodora Youmans, President of the Wisconsin Woman Suffrage Association (WWSA), this parade tunic was worn by a woman suffrage supporter during the 1916 Republican National Convention in Chicago. Although the Republican party had endorsed the principles of suffrage, they had not supported the passage of a constitutional amendment. Youmans had these tunics made to help reenergize the WWSA and to generate excitement for the parade down Michigan Ave.
