About this record
In the winter of 1860-61, Mrs. D.H. Johnson boarded at the Mondell House in Prairie du Chien, where John Muir was employed doing odd jobs in exchange for his board. In this short memoir, she describes the hotel, the Pelton family who ran it, and how young Muir condemned the innocent frivolity of his fellow boarders.Citation
