About this record

Wartime needs changed many things in Wisconsin, including education. As colleges and universities began offering more technical training to men in preparation for war, opportunities for women in both higher education and employment increased. In this speech, Lucia Briggs, President of Milwaukee-Downer College, argued that women's colleges faced new responsibilities in a world changed by war: they must help women fill the needs of war but also prepare them for the intellectual and cultural challenges of the future.
