About this record
Although political cartoons have appeared in some newspapers since the 18th century, they did not become widely popular until after the Civil War. Political cartoons combine the political and the artistic, presenting a particular point of view or story through symbolism and caricature. This political cartoon of La Follette was drawn around 1906. It shows La Follette holding a big club with the words "For Any Old Trust." La Follette was known for rallying against big business and trusts and for bringing his message directly to the people.Citation
