About this record

Combing traditional beading with contemporary clothing is one way of asserting and preserving cultural identity while still maintaining mainstream styles.  Ho-Chunk artist Linda Lucero of Black River Falls attached glass beads to this pair of baby shoes. The beading of athletic shoes became popular in the late 20th century, spreading beyond the Native American community.
