About this record
In 1938, Life magazine invited notable architects to design "dream homes" for four American families, each at different income levels. Each family was assigned two architects, one "traditional" and one "modern," and Frank Lloyd Wright was chosen to prepare a modern design for a Minnesota family. The family originally chose Wright's plan but disagreements about cost and the addition of a garage led them to subsequently choose the more traditional design of Royal Barry Wills. At the same time, Life Houses of Chicago began selling models of all the dream homes and Mary Williams of Madison purchased this paper model of Wright's home.Citation
