About this record
Although it does not mention Wisconsin, this issue of The New International (published in New York), gives a concise summary of the various socialist perspectives that dominated left-wing discourse during the time when Milwaukee was governed by socialists. It provides the broad context for understanding the policies of "sewer socialism" advanced by Victor Berger and the more moderate reforms of the Progressives. It discusses socialist programs advanced in France, Russia, and Japan as well the activities of Eugene Debs and the I.W.W. in America. It also includes a 1915 essay ("The Collapse of the International") by Lenin. This is the only known copy of this issue of the journal.Citation
