About this record

Attending Joy Camps on Lake Raymond, near Hazelhurst in Oneida County, Wisconsin, was a life-changing experience for Sue Ann Hackett. This album entitled "Official Photographs..." depicts the camps during the early 1940s. All the photographs in this album have been individually scanned and described in more detail in our Wisconsin Historical Images collection. Two boxes of Sua Ann Hackett's papers and scrapbooks document Joy Camps during the summers of 1949-1951, when she attended. Joy Camps was operated by Barbara Ellen Joy, who served as president of the American Camping Association, and Marjorie Camp. Hackett's papers and Barbara Ellen Joy's book, Camp Craft: A Manual for Leaders Responsible for Organization of Camp Craft in the Summer Camp (Minneapolis, 1955), are included elsewhere at Turning Points in Wisconsin History.
