About this record
Although Madison had a somewhat dispersed African-American population compared to many other northern cities, African-Americans in Madison suffered from many of the same disabilities such as limited educational and employment as did African-Americans elsewhere in Wisconsin. As a result, a disproportionately large number were employed in service and unskilled positions rather than better paying white-collar jobs. The data in this pamphlet was compiled from interviews conducted with 143 adult African Americans in South Madison.Citation
