About this record

In 1917 a bill was introduced in the state legislature to acquire and restore the buildings where the territorial convention had met. This series of newspaper articles from the spring and summer of that year were part of a campaign to preserve this historic site. They describe what happened in Belmont in 1836 as well as what happened to the building in the following decades, and include many photographs and details on the efforts beginning in 1906 to save the site from destruction.
