About this record
A.C. Jones recalls the stories old miners told him during his childhood in the 1860s about the origin of the term "badger." At the end of this letter he also describes interviews with an elderly Ho-Chunk woman who recalled seeing the white miners arrive, and relates what the Indians thought of them. For more on the state's nickname, see the entry in our Dictionary of Wisconsin History.Citation
