About this record
By the second half of the nineteenth century, much of the mining activity in Wisconsin had shifted from the lead regions of the southwest to the north. In 1886, a group of Milwaukee businessmen traveled to the Gogebic range in Northern Wisconsin to inspect mining prospects in the region. The Milwaukee Sentinel ran this series of articles about the trip, focusing primarily on mining output and quality as well as the economic development of the area.Citation
