About this record
Until Increase Lapham's book-length study appeared a decade later, this article by Stephen Taylor was the most thorough essay on Wisconsin mounds. Although devoted largely to a remarkable group of effigy mounds near Muscoda, on the Wisconsin River in Grant County, it also described and mapped Aztalan before that site was disfigured by white settlers. Taylor carefully measured and drew the mounds he visited, and his account is the only surviving information about some that have since been destroyed.Citation
