About this record

In 1882, a group of women in Richland Center formed a club devoted--secretly--to suffrage. As the wives of prominent businessmen, these women felt that their husbands would not approve of their activities, so they operated publicly as a social and philanthropic club. In this article, Mary Elizabeth Hussong looks at the history of the club and its development into a more public suffrage organization.
